We Believe in the Englewood Community.
The Englewood Community has a rich and storied history dating back to before it was annexed to the City of Chicago in 1889. Its prominence within the city was due in part to the extensive array of transportation routes that terminated in or passed through the area. Of particular note was a terminal for the Underground Railroad at 67th and Racine Avenue. Englewood was an early beacon of hope for African Americans escaping slavery and this identity provides an important link to the neighborhood’s present. Englewood is on track to shine again with opportunity and Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men - Englewood Campus is one of the lights in this rekindling.
